Keep vigilant! The ATO is warning that it is receiving reports of scammers pretending to be from the ATO calling members of the public and asking them to provide their bank account details. The scammers are telling them that their employer has registered them for the JobKeeper Payment, but that the ATO needs their bank account details to deposit the funds into their account.

If you are eligible for the JobKeeper Payment, you will be paid directly by your employer and reimbursed by the ATO. The ATO will never request the bank account details of individual employees.

Scammers are constantly developing new ways to steal from the community. If you are in doubt about whether an ATO call is legitimate, you should hang up immediately and telephone the ATO directly on 1800 008 540 to check.
